Talking Books
Talking Book Services provides materials for individuals who are unable to
read traditional printed titles -- this includes people who are legally
blind, have low vision, dyslexia, or any physical condition that makes it
difficult to handle books. Click
here for
eligibility requirements. Talking books are now available from the National
Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped called BARD (Braille
and Audio Reading
Download service), a downloadable digital
service. (Read
more...)
Although BARD is very popular with Talking Books clients, not all books
can be downloaded, so it is likely that Talking Books clients will also
enjoy the NH Downloadable Book services. The Walpole Town Library is
ready to help patrons obtain these books or help resolve issues by working
with the NH State Library. Please call the Library (756-9806) for an
appointment so we can be prepared to help when you arrive.
To use Talking Books you will need a special digital
player (not the old big ones that are being phased out) with a special
cartridge or flash drive that has already been authenticated by Talking
Books. Call the Talking Books staff at (603) 271-3429 to obtain a
player or other help.
To download Talking Books:
Go to the
Talking Books/Bard login website
Login
Select books
Download the books either to a computer or directly to the patron's
flash drive or cartridge. The books will be zip (compressed)
files.
Unzip the file on the flash drive or cartridge.
Delete the zipped file.
Put the flash drive or cartridge into the player (it can only be
played on the special player) and test to be sure the book works.
